Jonathan Djanogly MP welcomes consultation on the A14 improvement scheme

9th September 2013

Jonathan Djanogly, Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon constituency, today welcomed the start of the Highways Agency public consultation on route options for the Cambridge to Huntingdon A14 improvement scheme.

Jonathan said:

“As expected, the route essentially copies the chosen proposal of the CHUMMS consultation over a decade ago so there are no great surprises. As it was also expected, funding will mainly be from government with some tolling and a significant council/business contribution of £100 million.”

“Given that traffic is predicted to increase by over 26% between 2010 and 2025 it is vital to move ahead with this new road as soon possible.”

“The red line issue for me was always that a non tolled local alternative remained. I am pleased to see that this will be the case with the existing A14 being detrunked. I encourage local residents to respond to the consultation before its close date of 13 October.”
